Business To Business, New Delhi, 14th June, 2026: The Embassy of India in Muscat on Sunday said that 11 Indian crew members from the Indian-flagged merchant vessel MSC Virat 1 have been successfully rescued off the coast of Oman following an emergency at sea.
According to the embassy, the vessel suffered an engine failure, prompting a rescue operation. The ship had a total crew of 14 members.
In a statement shared on social media, the embassy said:
"In a closely coordinated and ongoing rescue operation at sea, 11 of the 14 crew members of MSC Virat 1 have been rescued and taken onboard by MV Jabal Ali 9."
The rescued sailors were taken aboard MV Jabal Ali 9, while efforts remain underway to locate and rescue the remaining three crew members.
The embassy indicated that the rescue operation is continuing in coordination with relevant maritime authorities and other stakeholders. No further details regarding the condition of the rescued crew members or the circumstances surrounding the engine failure were immediately available.
The incident highlights the importance of international maritime cooperation in emergency situations, particularly in busy shipping routes near the coast of Oman, where commercial vessels regularly transit through strategic sea lanes.
