15 vessels carrying urea, DAP and Sulphur cross Strait of Hormuz safely, says govt

Business To Business, New Delhi, 05th July, 2026:    India's fertilizer supply chain has remained largely unaffected by the recent conflict in West Asia, with 15 of the 20 vessels carrying fertilizers and key raw materials for the country having safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said on Sunday.
According to the ministry, the shipments have continued on schedule, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers for the ongoing agricultural season despite heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
Of the vessels that have successfully crossed the strategic waterway, eight are carrying approximately 3.32 lakh tonnes of urea, four are transporting 2.57 lakh tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP), and three are loaded with 1.11 lakh tonnes of sulphur, a key raw material used in fertilizer production.
The ministry said the consignments are on schedule to reach Indian ports, helping maintain adequate fertilizer availability across the country.
In addition, five more vessels are expected to arrive in the coming days. These include one vessel carrying around 0.25 lakh tonnes of ammonia and another transporting 0.45 lakh tonnes of urea, while the remaining shipments are also proceeding as planned.
The government said it is closely monitoring global shipping routes and supply logistics to ensure uninterrupted availability of fertilizers for farmers. The smooth movement of cargo through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest maritime trade corridors, has helped avert any immediate disruption to India's fertilizer imports despite the recent regional conflict.
