After record H1 volumes, BMW eyes crossing 20k annual sales in India this yr

Business To Business, New Delhi, 08th July, 2026:    German luxury carmaker BMW is aiming to surpass annual sales of 20,000 units in India for the first time in 2026, buoyed by record sales in the first half of the year and growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and luxury cars in smaller cities.
BMW Group India recorded its highest-ever first-half sales during the January-June period, delivering 9,075 cars, a 17 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year. During the April-June quarter, the company sold 4,507 cars, also registering a 17 per cent year-on-year growth.
Expressing confidence in the company's growth trajectory, BMW Group India President and Chief Executive Officer Hardeep Singh Brar said the automaker is targeting a historic sales milestone in the Indian market.
"Absolutely, we are looking at crossing the 20,000 mark for the first time ever. All eyes on that," Brar said when asked whether BMW expected to achieve record annual sales in 2026 following its strong first-half performance.
The company attributed the robust growth to sustained demand across its product portfolio, with electric vehicles emerging as a key growth driver. Rising demand from tier-2 and tier-3 cities has also contributed significantly, reflecting the expanding footprint of the luxury automobile market beyond major metropolitan centres.
BMW expects the momentum to continue through the second half of the year, supported by a growing EV portfolio, increasing customer interest in premium mobility and the continued expansion of its sales and service network across the country.
The company remains optimistic about the long-term prospects of the Indian luxury car market, citing improving consumer sentiment, higher disposable incomes and increasing adoption of electric mobility as key factors driving future growth.
