Air India modifying certain Dreamliners to address possible door assist handle issue

Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th July, 2026:    Air India is carrying out modifications on certain Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to address a potential issue with door assist handles, sources said, following a recent US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airworthiness directive.
Earlier this month, the FAA issued the directive covering certain Boeing 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft after receiving reports that door assist handles had pulled loose from their lower attachment point in the doorway support bracket during pre-flight inspections.
The US aviation regulator has directed operators of the affected aircraft to carry out specified modifications, warning that a detached door assist handle could pose an injury risk to passengers, crew members or maintenance personnel while opening the aircraft door.
Sources said Air India has initiated the required modifications on the affected aircraft in its Boeing 787 fleet to comply with the FAA directive and enhance operational safety.
The FAA's directive is intended as a preventive safety measure to address the identified issue before it can lead to injuries during aircraft operations.
