Business To Business, Guwahati, 26th July, 2026: The Assam government on Saturday approved a waiver of stamp duty on loans of up to Rs 10 lakh availed by members of self-help groups (SHGs) to promote livelihood and enterprise activities.
Announcing the decision after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the waiver would apply to individual loan documents executed by SHG members under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM).
The exemption will be available for loans of up to Rs 10 lakh taken for livelihood and entrepreneurial purposes from scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks, and other financial institutions regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The Chief Minister said the measure is aimed at reducing the financial burden on SHG members, encouraging greater access to formal credit, and supporting income-generating activities and rural entrepreneurship across the state.
