Average data breach cost hits record high of Rs 25.5 cr in India: IBM report
Business To Business, New Delhi, 03 August, 2026: The average organisational cost of a data breach in India reached a record high of Rs 25.5 crore in 2026, marking a 16% increase from Rs 22 crore in 2025, according to a report by IBM.
The report also found that the scale of data breaches increased during the year:
- Average cost of a data breach (2026): Rs 25.5 crore (highest on record).
- Average cost (2025): Rs 22 crore.
- Average records compromised (2026): 39,500.
- Average records compromised (2025): 38,200.
IBM noted that
Rs 25.5 crore represents the
highest average cost of a data breach ever recorded in India, highlighting the growing financial impact of cyberattacks on organisations.
The findings underscore the increasing importance of robust cybersecurity measures, including stronger data protection practices, continuous monitoring, rapid incident response, and investment in advanced security technologies to reduce the financial and operational consequences of data breaches.
