Bangladesh seeks more diesel supply from India

Business To Business New Delhi/Dhaka, 06 August, 2026:   Bangladesh has requested additional diesel supplies from India to help address its ongoing power and gas shortages, as senior officials from the two countries held discussions on expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
The request came during a meeting between Dinesh Trivedi and Iqbal Hassan Mahmood.
According to the High Commission of India in Bangladesh, High Commissioner Trivedi paid a courtesy call on the minister, and the two sides:

  • Exchanged views on strengthening India–Bangladesh cooperation in the power and energy sectors.
  • Discussed ways to deepen bilateral collaboration in energy.
Bangladesh's request for additional diesel supplies is aimed at easing fuel availability amid persistent electricity generation and gas supply constraints.
The meeting underscores the importance of energy cooperation in the broader India–Bangladesh bilateral relationship, with both countries continuing to engage on issues related to power supply, fuel security and cross-border energy collaboration.
