CCI clears Aditya Birla-led consortium's Rs 16,660 cr buyout of IPL team RCB

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th June, 2026:   The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Tuesday approved the acquisition of Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd (RCSPL), the owner and operator of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), by a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group, Times Group entities, Blackstone and other investors.
In March this year, United Spirits Ltd (USL) announced the sale of the RCB franchise in an all-cash deal valued at Rs 16,660 crore to the investor consortium.
According to the CCI, the approved transaction involves the acquisition of 100 per cent shareholding in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd by Big Banyan Holdings, Bolt IPL Holdings, Times Internet Ltd, Times Cricket LLP, ICQ Opportunities RC Holdco Ltd, and Asia Investment Topco II Pte Ltd.
With the regulator's approval, the transaction has cleared a key regulatory hurdle and can proceed subject to the fulfilment of any remaining customary closing conditions.
