Centre of Excellence for Handloom Technology launched at IIT-Delhi

Business To Business, New Delhi, 03 August, 2026:   Giriraj Singh on Monday inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Handloom Technology (CoE-HT) at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, with the aim of modernising India's handloom sector through technology, innovation and research.
The new Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for advanced research and development to enhance productivity, sustainability and competitiveness in the handloom industry.
According to an official statement, the CoE-HT will focus on research in:

  • Loom modernisation.
  • Ergonomics.
  • Artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Sustainability.
  • Functional innovation.
  • Digital technologies.
On the occasion, the government also launched five flagship initiatives to accelerate:
  • Innovation in the handloom sector.
  • Sustainable production practices.
  • Digital transformation across the handloom value chain.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India's traditional handloom ecosystem by integrating cutting-edge technologies with artisanal craftsmanship, improving efficiency, product quality and market competitiveness while preserving the country's rich textile heritage.
