Business To Business, New Delhi, 24th July, 2026: Telecom subscribers across the country reported about 17.22 lakh unsolicited commercial communications (UCC), commonly known as spam or pesky calls and messages, during the first five months of 2026, Parliament was informed on Thursday.
Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said consumers had lodged 31.09 lakh UCC complaints with telecom service providers during 2025.
"The UCC (Unsolicited Commercial Communications) complaints received by various Access Providers and reported to TRAI for the year 2025 were 31.09 lakh and for the year 2026 (up to May 2026) were 17.22 lakh," the minister said.
The data reflects the volume of complaints reported by telecom operators to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as part of efforts to curb spam calls and messages and strengthen consumer protection against unsolicited commercial communications.
