Business To Business, New Delhi, 25th June, 2026: Cooperation Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani on Thursday urged cooperative banks to adopt modern technology platforms and strengthen governance practices to remain competitive in an increasingly digital financial landscape.
Addressing a conference in Srinagar, Bhutani said both rural and urban cooperative banks require common technology solutions, stronger governance frameworks, improved service delivery and enhanced financial discipline to meet evolving customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
"In the era of UPI and digital financial services, cooperative banks must adopt modern technology platforms to remain relevant and competitive," he said.
Bhutani emphasised that digital transformation is no longer optional for cooperative banks, as customers increasingly prefer seamless and technology-driven banking services. He noted that the adoption of modern banking technologies would help cooperative institutions improve operational efficiency, expand their reach and enhance customer experience.
The secretary also highlighted the importance of robust governance mechanisms and prudent financial management in strengthening the cooperative banking sector and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
His remarks come amid the rapid growth of digital payments and financial services across India, which is reshaping the country's banking ecosystem and raising the need for cooperative banks to modernise their operations.
