Delhi govt orders CAG audit of power discoms over pending RAs of Rs 38,500 cr

Business To Business, New Delhi, 02nd July, 2026:   The Delhi government has ordered a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of the capital's power distribution companies (discoms) amid concerns over regulatory assets amounting to Rs 38,500 crore that are yet to be recovered from consumers.
According to an order issued by the Delhi government's Power Department on Wednesday, the CAG will conduct a "strict and intensive" audit to examine the circumstances under which the three power distribution companies—BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL)—have continued to accumulate regulatory assets without recovering them.
The audit will seek to assess the reasons behind the build-up of the pending regulatory assets and examine the associated financial and regulatory processes.
The government has directed that the audit be completed preferably within three months from the date of communication of the order, subject to any extension that the CAG may consider necessary based on the scope and complexity of the exercise.
