Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th May, 2026: Derek O'Brien on Saturday highlighted the expanding presence of the Tata Group in West Bengal, responding to remarks made earlier by Samik Bhattacharya that a BJP government would "bring Tata back" to the state.
In a post on X, O'Brien listed investments and expansion projects undertaken by various Tata Group companies in West Bengal over the past 15 years, arguing that the conglomerate already maintains a substantial and growing presence in the state.
He contended that the narrative of bringing the Tata Group back overlooks the company's existing operations and investments across different sectors in Bengal.
Former state finance minister Amit Mitra also defended the state's industrial performance, backing the government's record on investment and economic development.
The exchange comes amid a broader political debate over the legacy of the relocation of the Tata Nano project from Singur in 2008 and the future direction of industrial policy in West Bengal.
