Ebola scare: DGCA asks airlines make in-flight announcements, take other measures
Business To Business, New Delhi, 25th May, 2026: In response to the Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Africa, India’s aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation has directed airlines to strengthen public health precautions for passengers arriving from affected regions.
The DGCA has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlining preparedness and response measures related to Ebola virus disease.
Under the new guidelines, airlines with direct or indirect connectivity to Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo must:
- Make mandatory in-flight health announcements
- Ensure passengers complete self-declaration forms before de-boarding
- Strengthen health screening and reporting procedures
The measures are aimed at improving early detection, contact tracing, and public health monitoring for passengers originating from or transiting through affected countries.
Ebola virus disease is a highly infectious disease that can cause severe illness and has previously led to major outbreaks in parts of Africa. Aviation and health authorities often introduce enhanced screening and surveillance protocols during outbreaks to reduce the risk of international spread.
