GAIL, RCF sign pact to develop gas-based urea plant in Maharashtra

Business To Business, New Delhi, 29th July, 2026:   State-owned GAIL (India) Ltd and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a gas-based fertiliser plant in Maharashtra through a special purpose vehicle (SPV).
The proposed facility will have an annual production capacity of 1.27 million metric tonnes (MMTPA) of urea and will be located in the Vidarbha region along GAIL's Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline.
Under the agreement, GAIL and RCF will work together on all stages of the project, from the conceptual and planning phase through implementation.
The proposed plant is expected to strengthen domestic urea production capacity, improve fertiliser availability, and leverage the existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure to support efficient and sustainable manufacturing. The collaboration also aligns with the government's efforts to enhance self-reliance in fertiliser production and expand industrial development in the Vidarbha region.
