Goa Congress urges Sebi to withhold listing of Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd

Business To Business, Panaji, 14th June, 2026:    The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday urged the Securities and Exchange Board of India to withhold the listing of Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited, alleging that its parent company Vedanta Limited did not adequately disclose a purported liability of ₹16,500 crore related to mining operations in Goa.
In a letter to SEBI Chairperson, GPCC president Girish Chodankar requested that the regulator reconsider the approval granted to VISL's listing until the concerns raised by the party are examined.
Vedanta demerger and listings
The development comes ahead of the stock market debut of four demerged businesses of the Vedanta Group. Along with the already-listed Vedanta Limited, the following entities are scheduled to begin trading on Indian exchanges:

  • Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited
  • Vedanta Oil & Gas Limited
  • Vedanta Power Limited
  • Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited
The shares of these newly created entities are expected to be listed on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India.
Nature of the allegation
The Congress unit contends that liabilities arising from mining-related issues in Goa should have been fully disclosed before VISL's listing. The party has asked SEBI to review the matter and ensure that investors have complete information regarding any material financial obligations associated with the business.
As of now, the allegation represents the position of the Goa Congress, and any decision regarding disclosure compliance or listing approval would fall within the jurisdiction of Securities and Exchange Board of India and other relevant regulatory authorities.
The issue adds a regulatory and political dimension to one of the largest corporate restructuring exercises undertaken by the Vedanta Group, which aims to create separate listed entities focused on different business segments.
