Govt exempts import duty on cotton till Oct 30

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th May, 2026:    The Government of India on Saturday announced a complete exemption from customs duties on cotton imports for five months, from June 1 to October 30, 2026.
According to a notification issued by the finance ministry, all customs duties on imported cotton will be waived during this period.
The move is aimed at increasing the availability of cotton for the domestic textile industry, which has been facing concerns over raw material supply and costs. Lower import duties are expected to make cotton imports more economical for textile manufacturers and spinning mills.
The decision could benefit sectors linked to cotton-based textiles, garments, and exports by improving access to raw materials and potentially helping stabilize input costs for producers.
