Business To Business, New Delhi, 28th May, 2026: The government on Wednesday said that India has “more than adequate” supplies of petrol and diesel to meet domestic demand, asserting that there is no fuel shortage in the country.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India—one of the world’s largest refining hubs with a capacity of 258.1 million tonnes across 22 refineries—produced enough fuel in FY26 to fully meet domestic consumption of 243.2 million tonnes, while also exporting 61.5 million tonnes of petroleum products.
The statement also cautioned against the diversion of subsidised retail fuel for industrial use, emphasizing the need to maintain proper distribution channels.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has reportedly been coordinating continuously with oil marketing companies, state governments, and industry stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.
