Haryana energy department employees' proposed strike: Talks with unions underway, says Vij
Business To Business Chandigarh, 07 August, 2026: Anil Vij on Friday said the Haryana government is continuing discussions with employees' unions of the energy department over their proposed three-day strike from August 11 to 13, and expressed confidence that the unions could be persuaded to withdraw the agitation.
The minister said representatives of various energy department employees' unions recently held detailed discussions with him and senior departmental officials.
Key points
- Talks between the government and the unions are ongoing.
- Vij said he is hopeful that the unions will withdraw their proposed strike after discussions.
Main demand raised by the unions
According to the minister, one of the unions' primary demands is that:
- Electricity distribution should not be privatised through the grant of a parallel distribution licence.
Responding to this concern, Vij said:
- The matter is currently before the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC).
- HERC is an autonomous statutory body.
- It functions independently of the Energy Department, meaning the department does not control its decision-making.
Vij said the government remains engaged with the unions to address their concerns and resolve the issue through dialogue before the proposed strike begins.
