Himachal's biodiversity conservation scheme to boost ecology, enhance farmers' income: CM

Business To Business, Shimla, 24th July, 2026:   Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday launched the Himachal Biodiversity Stakeholder-led Conservation Unified Scheme (HiBiSCUS), describing it as a major initiative to conserve the state's biodiversity while enhancing farmers' incomes through market-based interventions.
To facilitate the implementation of the scheme, the State Biodiversity Board released Rs 2 crore to the forest department.
Speaking at the launch, Sukhu said the HiBiSCUS scheme would make a significant contribution to ecological restoration by protecting Himachal Pradesh's rich biological heritage and promoting sustainable management of natural resources.
He added that the initiative is designed to generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities by linking biodiversity conservation with income generation and improved market access for farmers.
The state government expects the scheme to strengthen conservation efforts while supporting rural livelihoods through community participation and sustainable economic opportunities.
