HSBC slashes FY27 GDP estimate sharply to 6 pc, expects two RBI rate hikes

Business To Business, New Delhi, 11th May 2026:  A foreign brokerage has projected that India’s real GDP growth will fall to 6 percent in FY27 from 7.4 percent in FY26, citing twin shocks of an energy crisis and deficient rainfall.
The report from HSBC also warns that these shocks are likely to fuel inflation and could prompt the Reserve Bank to raise key lending rates twice during the current fiscal year.
"Considering both shocks and some fiscal slippage, we forecast GDP growth of 6 percent in FY27, down from our previous estimate of 7.4 percent," the report stated.
