India achieves 300 GW RE capacity, 60 pc of 500 GW target by 2030

Business To Business, New Delhi, 10 August 2026:  India has crossed the 300 GW milestone in installed non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity, reaching 300.50 GW as of July 31, 2026, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said on Sunday.
The figure represents over 60% of India's target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, marking a significant step in the country's clean-energy transition.
Capacity breakdown

Source Installed capacity
Solar power 164.59 GW
Wind power 58.14 GW
Hydropower 57.24 GW
Bio-power 11.75 GW
Nuclear power 8.78 GW
Total 300.50 GW
Solar accounts for the largest share of the non-fossil capacity at 164.59 GW, followed by wind and hydropower.
The ministry described the achievement as an important milestone towards India's 2030 clean-energy and climate commitments, with the country now needing to add roughly 199.5 GW more non-fossil capacity to reach the 500 GW target.
