India-Canada FTA talks can be concluded before year end target: Goyal
Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th May, 2026: Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that India and Canada are negotiating a proposed free trade agreement with “full sincerity,” and indicated that the talks could conclude before the end of the year, possibly by October.
Speaking at a business event in Toronto, Goyal said both countries see significant opportunities to expand cooperation in sectors including:
- Innovation
- Seafood
- Education
- Financial services
- Insurance
- Biotechnology
- Pharmaceuticals
He stated that the prime ministers of both countries have directed officials to work in “mission mode” to finalise a comprehensive trade pact.
Referring to Canada’s trade minister Maninder Sidhu, Goyal said:
“Both Maninder and I have been tasked to ensure that we finalise a very comprehensive economic partnership agreement before the end of the year.”
The proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) aims to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties between the two countries.
Trade negotiations between India and Canada had earlier slowed amid diplomatic tensions, but recent statements suggest renewed efforts to deepen economic engagement and business collaboration.
