Business To Business, Moscow, 30th May, 2026: India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are discussing a “limited and temporary” trade arrangement covering selected categories of goods as part of ongoing negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement (FTA), according to remarks by Maxim Reshetnikov.
Speaking in an interview with the Vesti programme, Reshetnikov described the talks as complex, noting that India's large economy and the breadth of mutual interests make the negotiations more challenging than other trade discussions.
He said that the requests made by the Indian side were “quite ambitious,” reflecting the scale and significance of the proposed agreement.
The EAEU comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. An eventual FTA between India and the bloc could expand market access, reduce tariffs, and strengthen trade and investment flows across a region spanning Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The reported discussion of a temporary, limited trade arrangement suggests that both sides may be exploring an interim mechanism to build momentum while negotiations on a broader and more comprehensive FTA continue.
