Business To Business, New Delhi, 22nd July, 2026: India needs to address structural challenges such as high trade costs, regulatory complexity, infrastructure gaps and barriers to deeper global integration to achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, according to a World Trade Organization (WTO) report.
The WTO Secretariat's Trade Policy Review of India noted that the country has made significant progress in areas such as financial inclusion.
At the same time, the report said India's policy framework continues to feature relatively high tariffs, the use of import and export controls, state trading, and extensive budgetary support programmes, particularly for the supply of food grains and fertilisers.
