Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, New Delhi, 21st June, 2026: Piyush Goyal and Jamieson Greer are set to hold two days of discussions this week on the first phase of a proposed bilateral trade agreement between India and the United States.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Goyal said that his US counterpart would be arriving in New Delhi for the negotiations.
The upcoming talks follow chief negotiator-level discussions held in the national capital from June 2 to 4, during which officials from both countries worked on advancing the framework of the proposed agreement.
The first phase of the trade pact is expected to focus on improving market access, addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers, enhancing trade facilitation, and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
The negotiations are part of broader efforts by India and the United States to deepen their strategic and economic partnership. Both sides have been exploring ways to increase bilateral trade and investment, with the long-term goal of significantly expanding commercial ties between the world's largest and fifth-largest economies.
The meeting between Goyal and Greer is expected to review progress made so far and identify areas where further negotiations are required before the first phase of the agreement can be finalized.
