Business To Business, New Delhi, 04th July, 2026: Industry leaders on Saturday sought to address concerns regarding the use of 20 per cent ethanol-blended petrol (E20), asserting that the fuel is safe for both new and older vehicles and plays a vital role in reducing India's dependence on imported crude oil.
Speaking at a press conference held at the National Media Centre, former Engineers India Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Vartika Shukla said E20 fuel was introduced in a phased manner and subjected to extensive scientific testing on two-wheelers and four-wheelers before its nationwide rollout ahead of the 2030 blending target.
Describing the initiative as an important step towards decarbonisation, Shukla said the adoption of E20 can contribute significantly to lowering carbon emissions and enhancing energy security.
She noted that while there may be a marginal impact on engine performance in some cases, the effect depends on various factors, including vehicle condition and driving habits. Industry representatives emphasised that extensive testing has demonstrated the fuel's compatibility and safety across a wide range of vehicles.
