Jewel in sky: Lotus-shaped lab-grown diamond designed by Bengaluru firm blooms on Vikram-1

Business To Business, Mumbai, 28th July, 2026:   A Bengaluru-based company on Monday announced that a lotus-inspired diamond creation designed and crafted by it travelled into space aboard Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 orbital rocket during its recent mission.
The company, Cosmos Diamonds, said its handcrafted jewel, named "Cosmos Bloom," was carried on the Vikram-1 rocket launched under Mission Aagaman from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota on July 18.
According to the company, the launch marked the flight of India's first privately developed orbital rocket, with the lotus-shaped jewel accompanying the mission into space.
The piece is handcrafted in hallmarked gold and set with 16.9 carats of lab-grown diamonds, which were grown and crafted in Surat, the company said in a statement.
Inspired by the lotus, "Cosmos Bloom" was created to showcase Indian craftsmanship and the country's growing capabilities in lab-grown gemstones and advanced space technology. The company said the jewel symbolically represented the convergence of innovation, sustainability and India's expanding presence in the global space sector.
