Keen to bring services globally, India a great market: Amazon Leo executive on satellite plans

Business To Business, New Delhi, 23rd July, 2026:   Amazon's low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite network has nearly 400 satellites in orbit and is looking to expand its satellite broadband services into India, Chris Hofer, Head of International Spectrum Management and Strategy at Amazon LEO, said on Wednesday.
According to a source familiar with the company's plans, Amazon LEO initially intends to offer fixed home broadband services in India, with the service designed to complement existing terrestrial broadband networks.
The source added that an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC), comprising officials from the Ministries of Defence, Home Affairs and other departments, met on May 27, during which Amazon LEO presented its plans for complying with the country's prescribed security requirements.
