Business To Business, Mumbai, 21st July, 2026: The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) on Monday alleged that eight entities have defaulted on lease rentals amounting to approximately Rs 3,500 crore and said it has decided to initiate legal action to recover the outstanding dues.
In a statement, the authority said it has compiled the estimated combined liabilities of its eight largest defaulters to enforce public accountability and impress upon commercial tenants the need for the immediate clearance of arrears.
The MbPA also said it would crack down on lease defaulters and unauthorised occupants of public land under its jurisdiction along Mumbai's eastern waterfront, alleging that several high-profile lessees and tenants have accumulated substantial lease rental dues without clearing their liabilities.
