Business To Business, New Delhi, 08th July, 2026: State-owned National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) on Wednesday announced that it has entered into a joint venture agreement with NLC India Limited (NLCIL) to establish a 1,080 MW captive thermal power plant in Odisha.
According to a regulatory filing, the two public sector companies have signed a Joint Venture-cum-Shareholders' Agreement (JVA) to form a 50:50 joint venture company for developing a 4x270 MW (1,080 MW) thermal captive power plant at Angul in Odisha.
The proposed power plant is intended to supply captive electricity to NALCO's 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium smelter expansion project, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power source for the enhanced production capacity.
The project is expected to strengthen NALCO's integrated aluminium operations by securing long-term energy availability, a critical requirement for aluminium manufacturing, which is highly power-intensive.
The joint venture combines NALCO's expertise in the aluminium sector with NLC India's experience in power generation, supporting the efficient execution and operation of the project.
The development is expected to contribute to industrial growth in Odisha while reinforcing the operational efficiency and competitiveness of NALCO's expanding aluminium business. The captive power plant will play a key role in supporting the company's long-term production and capacity expansion plans.
