Business Aajkal, Baroda, 16 June 2025: In an effort to modernize foodgrain storage facilities, the Centre has established steel silos with a combined capacity of 19.5 lakh tonnes across the country over the past 11 years through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Currently, an additional 40 lakh tonnes of steel silo capacity are under construction, and tenders for another 25 lakh tonnes are in progress, according to a senior official from the Union Department of Food and Public Distribution.
Additionally, under the PPP model, Leap Agri Logistics (Baroda) Pvt Ltd has set up a steel silo at Kayavarohan village in Baroda district, designed to handle 50,000 tonnes of wheat on behalf of the central government.
