Business To Business, New Delhi, 11th July, 2026: NITI Aayog on Saturday convened a stakeholder consultation on the implementation of the SHANTI Act, 2025, which permits private companies to own and operate nuclear energy plants in India.
According to a statement issued by the government think tank, the consultation brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and government officials to deliberate on the operational framework for implementing the landmark legislation.
The discussions focused on the draft rules and regulations under the SHANTI Act, as well as the foreign direct investment (FDI) policy provisions associated with the new framework.
The opening technical session outlined the statutory compliance mechanisms envisaged under the SHANTI Act, 2025, and examined ways to attract foreign investment into the nuclear power sector while ensuring the protection of India's strategic and domestic interests.
The consultation forms part of the government's efforts to establish a robust regulatory framework for greater private sector participation in nuclear energy, while balancing investment facilitation with safety, security and national interest considerations.
