No commitments on ethanol import from US for fuel blending under trade talks: Govt

Business To Business New Delhi, 06 August, 2026:   The Union government on Thursday clarified that no concessions or commitments have been made regarding the import of ethanol from the United States for fuel blending as part of the ongoing India–US trade pact discussions.
In a statement, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said:

  • India's ethanol blending programme and ethanol procurement are governed entirely by domestic policy requirements.
  • Media reports claiming that India is importing, or plans to import, large quantities of ethanol from the United States for fuel blending are "baseless and factually incorrect."
The ministry stressed that:
  • There have been no commitments or concessions on ethanol imports in the India–US trade negotiations.
  • Decisions related to ethanol procurement continue to be driven by India's domestic policies and blending programme.
The clarification was issued to dispel speculation that ethanol imports from the US had been agreed to during bilateral trade discussions, with the government reaffirming that no such arrangement has been made.
