Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, New Delhi, 15th May 2026: Petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs 3 per litre on Friday for the first time in more than four years, as rising global crude oil prices linked to the ongoing Iran conflict prompted state-run fuel retailers to pass on part of their mounting losses after months of keeping rates unchanged through key state elections.
Following the hike, petrol prices in New Delhi rose to Rs 97.77 per litre from Rs 94.77, while diesel prices increased to Rs 90.67 per litre from Rs 87.67, according to industry sources.
Fuel prices vary across states because of differences in value-added tax (VAT) and local levies.
The increase comes amid continued volatility in global oil markets following tensions in Iran and the broader crisis in West Asia, which has raised concerns over supply disruptions and higher import costs for energy-dependent countries such as India.
