Purabi Dairy, NDDB, Suzuki join hands to set up compressed biogas plant in Assam

Business To Business, Guwahati, 05th July, 2026:    North East Dairy and Foods Ltd (NEDFL), which markets dairy products under the Purabi brand, has partnered with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Suzuki R&D Centre India (SRDI) to establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Assam as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and clean energy.
The three organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly implement the project, NEDFL said in a statement on Sunday.
Under the agreement, the National Dairy Development Board will provide technical expertise and institutional support for the project. North East Dairy and Foods Ltd will be responsible for executing the project, operating the proposed compressed biogas plant, and marketing and selling the compressed biogas as well as the organic fertilisers generated from the facility.
Suzuki R&D Centre India will collaborate on the initiative as a project partner, contributing to the development of sustainable waste-to-energy solutions.
The proposed plant is expected to convert dairy and other organic waste into compressed biogas, a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels, while also producing organic fertilisers that can be used in agriculture. The initiative is aimed at improving waste management, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the circular economy.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Assam's clean energy ecosystem, create additional income opportunities through value-added by-products and contribute to the state's broader sustainability and renewable energy goals.
