SEZ job work, export schemes among issues discussed at stakeholder meet

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th June, 2026:   A commerce ministry meeting on Special Economic Zone (SEZ) reforms on Tuesday discussed a range of issues aimed at improving the operational flexibility and competitiveness of SEZ units, according to an official.
The discussions covered harmonisation of export promotion schemes, permitting rupee payments for services supplied to the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA), and allowing SEZ units to undertake job work for DTA entities without linking such activity to export obligations.
Senior commerce ministry officials, exporters and industry representatives participated in the meeting. Stakeholders also reviewed the continued relevance, effectiveness and competitiveness of existing export promotion schemes in the current trade environment.
According to an industry representative, the deliberations focused on reducing procedural complexities, ensuring compatibility with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, and making the schemes more responsive to present-day business requirements.
The discussions form part of the government's broader exercise to review and reform the SEZ framework and related export promotion mechanisms to support trade and manufacturing growth.
