Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th July, 2026: The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has advised all Indian-flagged vessels and foreign ships carrying Indian seafarers to exercise the highest degree of caution while operating in the Black Sea amid escalating security risks in the region.
The advisory follows attacks on two commercial vessels in the Black Sea last week in which five Indian seafarers were killed.
In a circular issued on Saturday, the DGMA directed ship operators to undertake voyage-specific security risk assessments before entering the affected region.
"In view of the continuing armed conflicts in the Black Sea and the recent increase in attacks on merchant vessels... all Indian-flagged vessels and foreign vessels with Indian seafarers are advised to exercise the highest degree of caution while operating in the Black Sea and undertake voyage-specific security risk assessment before entering the affected region," the circular said.
The advisory is aimed at enhancing the safety of Indian seafarers and merchant vessels as tensions and attacks continue to threaten commercial shipping in the Black Sea region.
