Stock markets decline in early trade on spike in crude oil prices

Business To Business, Mumbai, 10 August 2026:  Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened marginally lower on Monday as a spike in crude oil prices, driven by geopolitical uncertainties, weighed on investor sentiment.
The 30-share BSE Sensex initially fell 19.38 points to 78,479.79, while the NSE Nifty 50 declined 5.10 points to 24,567.45.
Selling pressure increased later in the session, with:

  • Sensex: Down 158.62 points at 78,340.55
  • Nifty: Down 45.20 points at 24,524.95
The rise in crude prices remains a concern for India because the country is heavily dependent on imported crude oil, potentially increasing import costs and putting pressure on inflation and corporate margins.
