Stock markets tumble in early trade as crude oil prices hit USD 100 per barrel mark

Business To Business, New Delhi, 24th July, 2026:   Indian equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty fell sharply in early trade on Friday as crude oil prices climbed above USD 100 per barrel amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, dampening investor sentiment.
The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 512.07 points to 75,869.38 during early trading, while the 50-share NSE Nifty declined 153 points to 23,713.60.
Among the biggest losers on the Sensex were InterGlobe Aviation, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, and Trent, as investors reacted to concerns over rising energy costs and heightened geopolitical risks.
The surge in crude oil prices has raised fears of increased inflationary pressures and higher input costs, prompting broad-based selling in the equity markets. Rising oil prices are particularly significant for India, a major importer of crude, as they can impact inflation, corporate earnings, and the country's trade balance.
