Business To Business, New Delhi, 13th May 2026: Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday stressed the need to promote alternatives to paddy-centric farming in Punjab during a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Describing the discussions as “highly positive, constructive, and solution-oriented,” Chouhan said crop diversification emerged as the most significant issue during the meeting.
According to the Union minister, Punjab’s fertile agricultural land and strong farming infrastructure make it well suited for cultivating a range of alternative crops that could serve as viable substitutes for paddy cultivation.
The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to address concerns linked to excessive paddy cultivation in Punjab, including groundwater depletion, environmental stress and the long-term sustainability of the state’s agricultural economy.
