Union Minister Pralhad Joshi launches green hydrogen certification portal

Business To Business, New Delhi, 17th June, 2026:     Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday launched India's Green Hydrogen Certification Portal, a key digital platform aimed at improving transparency, traceability, and regulatory compliance in the country's emerging green hydrogen sector.
The portal has been developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
According to the ministry, the platform will:

  • Facilitate certification of green hydrogen production.
  • Ensure transparency in the sector.
  • Support regulatory compliance under India's Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme.
  • Provide a standardized mechanism for verifying green hydrogen credentials.
  • Enhance confidence among investors, buyers, and international partners.
Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Certification is important because it:
  • Verifies that hydrogen has been produced using clean energy.
  • Prevents "greenwashing" by ensuring authenticity.
  • Helps producers access domestic and international markets.
  • Supports global trade in green hydrogen and related products.
The minister launched the portal during the National Workshop on "Strengthening the National Green Hydrogen Mission: Through State Policies, Hubs & Infrastructure".
The workshop focused on:
  • State-level policy support.
  • Development of hydrogen hubs.
  • Infrastructure creation.
  • Industry participation.
  • Coordination between the Centre and states.
The certification portal is expected to play an important role in India's ambition to become a major producer and exporter of green hydrogen.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission seeks to:
  • Reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports.
  • Decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, refining, and fertilizers.
  • Promote clean energy innovation.
  • Create new industrial and employment opportunities.
  • Position India as a global hub for green hydrogen production and exports.
By establishing a transparent certification framework, the government aims to create a credible ecosystem that aligns with international standards and supports the long-term growth of the green hydrogen industry.
