US-based GE Vernova inks pact with Powerica for supply of wind turbines in Gujarat

Business To Business, New Delhi, 6th June, 2026:   GE Vernova has signed an agreement with Powerica Limited to supply 28 wind turbines for a renewable energy project in Gujarat, marking a significant step in the expansion of advanced wind technology in India.
Project details
The agreement covers:

  • Supply of 28 wind turbines.
  • Installation of the turbines at the Botad Wind Farm in Gujarat.
  • Associated project execution support.
The project will strengthen renewable energy generation capacity in one of India's leading wind-energy states.
Introduction of a new turbine platform
A key highlight of the deal is the Indian debut of GE Vernova's 3.8-megawatt (MW) onshore wind turbine.
According to the company, this is the first deployment of the turbine model in India and represents an important milestone in its strategy to expand its onshore wind portfolio in the country.
Why it matters
The introduction of larger-capacity turbines can offer several advantages:
  • Higher electricity generation per turbine.
  • Improved project economics.
  • More efficient land utilization.
  • Lower cost of renewable power over time.
As turbine technology advances, developers are increasingly opting for higher-capacity machines to improve the productivity of wind farms.
Gujarat's role in renewable energy
Gujarat is one of India's leading renewable-energy hubs, with strong wind resources and a growing portfolio of solar and wind projects.
The state plays a major role in India's clean-energy ambitions, including the national target of expanding non-fossil-fuel power generation capacity.
Industry context
India is among the world's fastest-growing renewable-energy markets, driven by:
  • Rising electricity demand.
  • Decarbonization goals.
  • Investments in wind and solar energy.
  • Supportive policy initiatives.
The partnership between GE Vernova and Powerica reflects continued investment in advanced renewable-energy infrastructure as India seeks to expand its clean-energy capacity and strengthen energy security.
The project is expected to contribute to Gujarat's renewable-energy generation capacity while introducing a new generation of wind turbine technology to the Indian market.
