Business To Business, Dehradun , 26th June, 2026: Uttarakhand has entered the international seafood market with its first commercial export of five metric tonnes of rainbow trout to Nepal, state officials said on Friday.
State Fisheries Development Minister Saurabh Bahuguna said the fish was produced by three cooperative societies in the Dharchula and Munsiari areas of Pithoragarh district with support from the state government.
The consignment was transported under a strict cold-chain system to Veraval for processing before being successfully exported to the Nepalese market on June 23.
According to the minister, the export generated approximately Rs 23.50 lakh in income for 33 local fish farmers, providing a significant boost to livelihoods in the hill districts.
Bahuguna said the milestone reflects the state's growing potential in aquaculture and highlights the success of government initiatives aimed at promoting high-value fish farming and expanding market access for local producers.
The export is expected to open new opportunities for Uttarakhand's fisheries sector by encouraging commercial aquaculture, strengthening the rural economy and enabling producers to tap international markets for premium seafood products.
