Vedanta Aluminium Metal to double production capacity to 60 LTPA
Business To Business, New Delhi, 22nd June, 2026: Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (VAML) on Monday announced plans to double its aluminium production capacity to 60 lakh tonnes per annum (6 million tonnes) as it seeks to capitalize on growing demand from infrastructure, automotive, and electrification sectors.
The announcement comes shortly after VAML began trading as an independent listed company on the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the BSE Limited (BSE) on June 15.
The listing follows the completion of the broader demerger of the Vedanta Group, which became effective on May 1.
Growth Strategy
According to the company, the planned expansion is intended to address rising aluminium consumption driven by:
- Infrastructure development
- Automotive manufacturing
- Electric vehicles
- Renewable energy projects
- Power transmission and electrification initiatives
Aluminium is increasingly viewed as a strategic metal because of its lightweight properties, recyclability, and extensive use in clean-energy and transportation applications.
Post-Demerger Focus
VAML said that its standalone listing creates a focused, pure-play aluminium business with:
- Greater strategic flexibility
- Improved capital allocation
- Enhanced operational focus
- Stronger long-term growth visibility for investors
The company believes the separation will enable it to pursue expansion opportunities more efficiently while responding to growing domestic and global demand for aluminium.
The planned increase to
6 million tonnes per annum would further strengthen VAML's position among the world's major aluminium producers and support India's ambitions to expand manufacturing, infrastructure, and energy-transition industries.
