Wheat output estimated to rise by 2.29 pc to 120.65 mn tons for 2025-26: Govt data
Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th May, 2026: India’s wheat production is estimated to reach 120.65 million tonnes in the 2025–26 crop year (July–June), according to the third advance estimate released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The projected output is:
- 2.29% higher than the 117.94 million tonnes produced in 2024–25
- Slightly above the ministry’s earlier pre-weather estimate of 120.21 million tonnes
The ministry said wheat production is expected to increase by about 27.12 lakh tonnes over last year despite localized crop damage caused by unseasonal rains and hailstorms in some regions.
The higher production estimate has been attributed to:
- Improved acreage under wheat cultivation
- Favorable growing conditions in major producing states
- Better yields in several regions despite weather disruptions
Wheat is one of India’s most important rabi crops and plays a central role in food security and government procurement programs. A higher harvest is expected to support:
- Public food grain stocks
- Domestic supply stability
- Inflation management in food prices
Major wheat-producing states include Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
