'Prosperity' was my top agenda during India visit, says Nepal ruling party chief Lamichhane

Business To Business, Kathmandu, 5th June, 2026:    Rabi Lamichhane on Friday said that "prosperity" was the central theme of his recent visit to India, emphasizing that stronger economic cooperation is essential for deeper India–Nepal ties.
Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from a five-day visit to India, Lamichhane said:
"Nepal-India relations can be strong only when the two countries move on the path of prosperity hand-in-hand."
Visit to India
Lamichhane's visit was undertaken at the invitation of Nitin Nabin.
During the trip, discussions reportedly focused on:

  • Economic cooperation between India and Nepal.
  • Trade and investment opportunities.
  • Development and connectivity initiatives.
  • Strengthening people-to-people ties.
Emphasis on economic partnership
Lamichhane argued that the future of bilateral relations should be driven by shared development goals and economic progress. His remarks highlighted the importance of:
  • Expanding cross-border commerce.
  • Improving infrastructure and connectivity.
  • Encouraging investment and job creation.
  • Pursuing mutually beneficial development projects.
India–Nepal relations
India and Nepal share close historical, cultural, and economic ties, including an open border and extensive people-to-people contacts.
Economic cooperation, energy trade, infrastructure development, and connectivity projects have become increasingly important pillars of the bilateral relationship, alongside traditional diplomatic and cultural links.
Lamichhane's comments underscore the view that sustained prosperity and economic growth can serve as a foundation for stronger and more stable relations between the two neighbouring countries.
