A330 neo planes could be very good option for Indian aviation market: Airbus exec
Business To Business, New Delhi, 16th June, 2026: A senior executive of Airbus has expressed confidence in the long-term growth of India's aviation sector, suggesting that the Airbus A330neo could become an attractive option for Indian airlines because of its operating economics and flexibility.
Joost van der Heijden said the company continues to see strong global demand for aircraft despite a challenging operating environment.
Why Airbus sees potential in India
According to Airbus, the Indian market continues to expand rapidly, driven by:
- Rising passenger traffic.
- Growth in domestic and international routes.
- Fleet expansion plans by Indian airlines.
- Increasing demand for long-haul connectivity.
The manufacturer currently has around
1,250 orders for A320-family aircraft from Indian carriers, representing a substantial delivery pipeline over the next decade.
A330neo as a possible fit
Van der Heijden indicated that the
Airbus A330neo offers economics comparable to larger wide-body aircraft such as the
Airbus A350 on certain routes, while potentially providing airlines with greater flexibility in capacity deployment.
The A330neo is typically used for:
- Medium- and long-haul international services.
- High-demand regional routes.
- Fleet modernization programs.
- Lower-capacity long-range operations compared with larger wide-body jets.
Industry forecasts continue to place
India among the world's fastest-growing aviation markets. Airlines are expanding fleets to meet rising travel demand, while airports and supporting infrastructure are also undergoing significant development.
For aircraft manufacturers such as
Airbus and
Boeing, India remains one of the most important growth markets globally, particularly as carriers seek both narrow-body aircraft for domestic operations and wide-body aircraft for international expansion.
The Airbus executive's remarks reflect the company's expectation that Indian airlines will continue to evaluate a mix of aircraft types as they expand their domestic and long-haul networks in the coming years.
