After India trip, Myanmar President Min arrives in China on five-day visit

Business To Business, Beijing, 15th June, 2026:   Min Aung Hlaing arrived in China on Monday for a five-day visit aimed at strengthening strategic and economic ties between the two neighboring countries.
During the visit, Min Aung Hlaing is expected to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior leaders on issues including bilateral cooperation, regional stability, trade, infrastructure, and security.
The visit comes at a time when Myanmar continues to face internal security challenges and an ongoing rebellion in several parts of the country. China remains one of Myanmar's most important economic and strategic partners, with major investments in infrastructure, energy, and connectivity projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Before traveling to China, Min Aung Hlaing visited India from May 30 to June 3, marking his first foreign trip after assuming the presidency following Myanmar's recent elections.
During that visit, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed bilateral cooperation, border security, connectivity, and regional issues.
A key outcome of the talks was Myanmar's assurance that its territory would not be allowed to be used for activities detrimental to India's security interests, an issue of particular importance given the long and sensitive India-Myanmar border.
The China visit is being closely watched because Myanmar occupies a strategic position between South Asia and Southeast Asia. Stronger engagement between Beijing and Naypyidaw could have implications for:

  • Regional security
  • Border stability
  • Trade and connectivity projects
  • Energy cooperation
  • China's influence in Southeast Asia
The discussions are expected to reaffirm the close relationship between China and Myanmar while addressing political and economic challenges facing the region.
