China, Nepal FMs hold 'comprehensive' talks, discuss bilateral ties
Business To Business, Kathmandu, 16th June, 2026: Wang Yi and Shisir Khanal held wide-ranging talks in Beijing, covering key aspects of relations between China and Nepal.
Khanal is on a four-day visit to China that began on June 14, shortly after completing a week-long trip to India.
Following the meeting, Khanal said on X that the two sides held a "comprehensive discussion" on the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including:
- Connectivity and infrastructure cooperation
- Border management
- Trade and economic ties
- Technology transfer
- Multilateral cooperation
- Broader regional and international issues
According to Khanal:
"We held a comprehensive discussion on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including in the areas of connectivity, border management, trade, technology transfer and multilateral cooperation."
The talks are noteworthy because Nepal occupies an important geopolitical position between India and China. Successive governments in Kathmandu have sought to maintain balanced relations with both neighbours while pursuing economic cooperation and development partnerships.
Relations between China and Nepal have increasingly focused on:
- Cross-border connectivity projects.
- Trade facilitation.
- Infrastructure development.
- Border security and management.
- Tourism and cultural exchanges.
- Cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.
Khanal's Beijing visit follows closely on the heels of his India trip, underscoring Nepal's efforts to engage actively with both of its major neighbours and strengthen diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships with each.
